This year Harrop Engineering proudly celebrates its Platinum Anniversary, marking 70 years of excellence in engineering and industry leading manufacturing for Automotive OEM, Motorsport and Aftermarket customers globally.
The beginning
Established in 1955 by Len & Elsa Harrop in the inner-city suburb of Brunswick, Harrop Engineering begun with specialist engineering for the textile and general trucking/haulage industries. As the business grew, Len and Elsa Harrop’s son, Ron, joined after completing his boilermaker apprenticeship in 1963. Ron had a passion for motorsports and modifying cars, so with Len’s technical skill and Ron’s motorsport passion the business evolved, opening them to the world of automotive performance parts.
Ron Harrop’s passion for motorsport would go on to redefine the DNA of Harrop Engineering and shape its future. His enhanced FJ quickly became a top contender in drag racing competitions. The vehicle soon earned its iconic status as the ‘Harrop Howler.’ Innovative designs and on-track success have contributed to the company philosophy and reputation still held today – in which Harrop are proud to have contributed to the success of diverse motorsport teams over the the last five decades.
Today and Beyond
Today, Harrop remains proudly Australian-owned and has successfully expanded its global footprint. In 2019, the company furthered its international presence by launching Harrop USA in Dayton, Ohio to directly service the US market. Harrop are now leaders in powertrain and driveline for diverse vehicle types, leveraging our engineering solutions and manufacturing capabilities.
Our success is made possible by our people, Harrop has an incredible team with many members eclipsing 20, 30 and some even 40 years of service. Retaining decades of invaluable experience in design, engineering and manufacturing IP enables our passion for performance driven innovation, to create engineered powertrain and driveline solutions.
