The biennial gathering of the Australian Lotus community
took place over the ANZAC weekend, providing Lotus enthusiasts the chance to
experience Victoria’s best wine regions, mountain roads and importantly their
Lotus.
It was a huge weekend for the Lotus community with Targa Tasmania also taking
place and Harrop Engineering together with Simply Sports Cars (SSC), Lotus Melbourne
& Zagame hosted the first Lotus Only Track Day (LOTD) of the year at Winton
Motor Raceway. Over 50 diverse Lotus’ attended, split between Drive, Sprint
& Race groups. Track time was maximised with alternating 15 minute sessions
for each group throughout the day, allowing participants to grow in confidence
and familiarise themselves with the track.
The Sprint group is timed and ideal for those with a competitive streak, Harry in his Harrop enhanced Exige S was quickest on the day, setting a blistering fastest lap in ideal conditions - 1:28.83!
Another highlight from the day was seeing Mark O’Connor hunt
down the race group after starting in the pits; he narrowly missed catching
first place after a series of red hot laps. Mark also had the outright fastest
time of the day in his rocket, setting a mid-1:26 lap early on Monday morning.
Going fast isn’t just what Lotus Only
Track Days are about; these days were created to offer a safe and fun platform
for Lotus owners to enjoy their cars, experience them out on a track with
driver training and mechanical support.
